GRACE PERIOD UNTIL 31ST AUGUST FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LEAVE UNTIL 31st JULY BUT WHO NEED TIME TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO LEAVE THE UK

In new Coronavirus issued on 29th July 2020 the Home Office has announced, at very short notice, a “ grace period “ for those whose leave will expire before or on 31st July 2020. This is to enable them to make arrangements to leave . Their conditions of stay will remain the same as before they were before their leave expired- so if they were able to work or rent accommodation previously they will be able to carry on doing so until they are able to leave.

There is no need to contact the Home Office to ask for leave until 31st August nor to tell them when it is possible to leave the UK.

Those who intend to leave the UK but who can not do so before 31st August can ask for extra time to stay- or “ exceptional indemnity.” They will need to contact the Home Office Immigration Team and to explain why they are unable to leave. This could for example be proof of testing positive for coronavirus.
