New immigration rules in force today mean that Tier 4 ( General ) students can now switch in to Tier 2 ( General) as soon as their course has been completed. Previously they could not apply until they had actually passed their course.

Part-time students can now be sponsored under Tier 4 ( General ) in certain circumstances although they wont be able to work in the UK, nor bring their dependants with them. The academic progress requirement will not be applied to students applying for leave to undertake a study abroad programme or work placement which is an assessed part of their course , nor to those applying for leave to complete a course after completing a study abroad programme or work placement.
