Advising on your rights whilst in the UK

It isn’t always clear what you are permitted to do whilst in the UK temporarily, and what is prohibited. General visitors are for example permitted to study for up to 30 days of their holiday but only in certain situations. Some students are permitted to work for ten hours a week during term time while some can work for 20 hours. Others can do no work. Skilled workers are generally limited to working for their own sponsors but can do “supplemental work ” in certain circumstances for no more than 20 hours per week.

The consequences of breaching the immigration rules are serious. Permission to remain can for example be curtailed . Working illegally is now a criminal offence with a possible prison sentence.

It makes sense to ask for advice if you are unclear as to what you can and can’t do. We can advise on the complexities of the immigration rules and can advise on what would be considered a breach.
